Commemorating stamps

Stamps, letters & changing technology
Georgina Caulton's series of ceramic stamps was selected for the Portage Ceramic Awards 2013, presented by Lopdell House Gallery at Silo Park, Auckland.
The work commemorates the anticipated passing of stamps and handwritten letters as email takes their place. Enlarged and made in clay, the familiar postage stamp becomes a lasting object: a record of a form of communication facing an uncertain future.
Perforated edges frame colourful, comic-style images. The contrast between a small, disposable paper stamp and its substantial ceramic counterpart gives the work both humour and a sense of remembrance.
